FIND OUT HOW YOU CAN GET THE PERFORMANCE OF AN UPRIGHT CLEANER FROM A HANDHELD!
The Dyson DC59 Animal digital slim vacuum cleaner has quickly risen to become one of our top selling products since it’s launch in the UK in September 2013, and the reason this compact and lightweight cleaner has become so popular is the fact that it has the same suction as most corded upright full-sized vacuum cleaners. This suction is achieved by having a 350 watt V6 digital motor, which makes the machine far more powerful than other Dyson handheld cleaners, and with 15 cyclones and being a bagless cleaner, there isn’t the need for the massively powerful motors found in a lot of other upright cleaners.
Key product features of the Dyson DC59 Animal are:
- 100 Air Watts Of Suction
- Up To 20 Run Time On Full Charge
- Includes Wall Mountable Bracket
- Lightweight At Only 2.1kg

The fact that the motor is right above your hand, means that the weight is not pulling on your arm in the way that the more traditional upright and handheld cleaners work, giving the impression that the DC59 is actually even lighter than it’s 2.1kg weight (or 4.6lbs in old money!).
Power Consumption and Operation
The Dyson DC59 Animal handheld cleaner can run for a maximum of 26 minutes when it is fully charged, or 17 minutes when using the mini motorised brush. There is a power boost button on the back of the cleaner (as you can see demonstrated on our YouTube video HERE) which provides even greater suction, though you should find that this doesn’t need to be on all of the time - if it is you will notice the battery time will drain a little quicker than usual. With the introduction of a softer power trigger than on previous models such as the DC35 and DC44, you will find that battery life is conserved a little easier, and that any finger ache associated with the older models has now gone!
Recharging Your DC59 Animal
When you’ve finished using the cleaner, or if the battery runs out, you can fully recharge the battery in 3.5 hours, with an easy to see LED light displayed on the side of the cleaner to show you when it is ready to go again! It is very easy to charge this vacuum as there is a wall-mountable charging station included in the box, which tidily stores the mains power charging cable and 2 of the included accessories. You simply lift the cleaner slightly to remove it from the docking station, and as easy as that, you’re ready to get cleaning once again!
What Tools Are In The Box?
Finally, the DC59 Animal comes with all of the expected tools in the box, in addition to the standard wand. There is the larger motorised carbon fibre filament head which is suitable for cleaning on any surface including carpet, tiles and wooden or laminate floors, as well as a mini motorised floor tool, which is great for picking up pet hairs in those hard to reach places, and on stairs where the standard large head can be a bit awkward. You also get a conventional combination tool and crevice tool for reaching high up, or underneath things!
